To apply for an IP-1 License in India you need:

1. A Private or Public limited company

To apply for an IP-1 License you must have registered Private Limited (Pvt. Ltd.) or Public Limited (Ltd.) company. (Ask your CA for more details if you are unsure about this)

2. 'Internet Infrastructure Provider' mentioned in company's MoA

Your company’s Memorandum of Assoication (MoA) should have the term ‘Internet Infrastructure Provider’ mentioned in it. (Ask your CA for more details if you are unsure about this)

Why do I need an IP-1 license?

IP-1 License is required for those infrastructure companies providing assets like dark fiber, duct space, right of way and towers to Internet Service Providers.

How long is the IP-1 License valid till?

Your IP-1 License is valid forever. When you stop your business, you will need to surrender your license to the DoT.

The complete process from filing your application to getting the IP-1 license will take you about 2 months.

I have an ISP license, do I need IP-1 license as well?

If you have an ISP license, you can legally lay down infrastructure to provide connectivity to your customers. Although, if you’re renting your fiber to other ISPs, you will need an IP-1 license.
