Muft Internet
Connecting Remote Villages to a World of Opportunity
What? / The Idea
Empowering individuals and communities to build their own internet service networks. We enable affordable, last-mile connectivity and broadband access for under-served regions across India, bringing the digital world within everyone’s reach.
Who? / The People
We are a dedicated community of passionate individuals who have spent the past decade connecting India’s remotest villages and schools — places where traditional networks don’t venture. Together, we’re bridging the digital gap in India.
Why? / The Purpose
Internet access is a fundamental human right. Our mission is to connect every school, village, and individual, unlocking pathways to education, opportunity, and empowerment. We believe no one should be left in the digital dark.
How? / The Strategy
We develop affordable technological solutions and foster strategic partnerships with local communities. Through a hands-on approach, we understand and address each community’s unique needs, bridging the digital divide one connection at a time.
Connecting the Unconnected: Internet for all
We are reshaping internet and information access in India by connecting under-served communities, empowering local ISPs, and bringing affordable broadband to the remotest corners of the country. Together, let’s build a future where every school, every village, and every individual can thrive with the power of connectivity
How We Started
At Muft Internet, our journey began a decade ago with a vision that seemed almost impossible: to bring Internet access to the remotest corners of India, where the digital world was a distant dream. Imagine a village tucked away in the mountains, where access is difficult, the roads are narrow and rough, and the nights are long and isolated, with almost no connection to the world beyond. It was in these forgotten places that we planted the seeds of change.
Internet as a Human Right
MUFT is committed to bridging India’s digital divide, where affordability, infrastructure, and literacy challenges leave millions offline.
We believe Internet access and education are fundamental human rights, driving our mission to connect remote communities to endless opportunities.
The Impact
Change is a gradual yet transformative journey. We’ve seen the impossible become reality—children now attending online classes and villages accessing world-class healthcare. These moments fuel our vision to make internet access a basic right, bringing hope, opportunity, and progress to every corner of the country.
Our work has touched the lives of over 200,000 people—individuals who now rely on our broadband technology for telemedicine, education, and staying connected with loved ones.
Why It Matters
Over the past few years, numerous researchers and NGOs have consistently highlighted a significant correlation: societies with higher internet penetration experience greater economic development, more transparent information flow, enhanced media communication, and stronger civic systems, particularly in education and healthcare.
These communities also enjoy improved civic engagement, increased democratic participation, and an overall enhancement in the quality of life. In contrast, regions with low internet penetration often lag behind in these critical areas. This insight has further fueled our commitment at MUFT, driving us to ensure that even the most remote communities can access the opportunities that connectivity brings.
Work Areas

Creating alternative financial models to provide free (neutral and open) sustainable Internet access to end-users.
Legal Roadblocks
Creating alternative legal models for microdistribution fo Internet.
Educational Roadblocks
Our Projects

Muft WiFi Network
Community powered free WiFi Zones
Users at such Muft WiFi hotspots get access to high-speed, neutral, and free Internet. However, they need to watch a 15 second advertisement every 1 hour to avail access.
The Muft WiFi community has enabled access for 100,000 end-users in India and continues to bring more people online every month.
Muft WiFi Hotspot Software
Open sourced captive portal.
We developed an in-house free-to-use (and soon to be open sourced) cloud controlled Radius (AAA) with mobile-OTP based authentication system. This software substantially increases revenue while utilizing idle bandwidth.
This significantly improves low cost public WiFi distribution for Internet service providers and operators in India.
ISP Entrepreneurship Program
For people who want start or optimize their own ISP business
We have partnered with Hybrid Internet to create educational programs with a goal to bring future network architects up to industry standards. Our educators are focused at creating a generation of entrepreneurs that provide affordable (and open) Internet access and create localised web services.
MIKRO Internet Entrepreneurship Program – Training program for students to become (WiFi) Internet service providers / operators.
MIKRO educational programs framework have been used to teach across 110 cities (and with the option of distant-learning online).
